Lublin Digital Union at the Summer with Radio Picnics

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education is the originator of the “Ale Kosmos” Science Picnic initiative, which travels throughout Poland together with the Lato z Radiem and TVP 2 projects.
Teams representing three Lublin universities boldly set off on a concert and science tour with the Lublin Digital Union’s research project “The use of digital solutions and artificial intelligence in medicine”. The proposal to popularise knowledge about eye health was agreed upon, accepted and has been travelling around Poland since the first Saturday of the 2025 summer holidays! The LUC academic representation has already visited seven of the nine locations planned as part of the campaign promoting the project, funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
Competitions, puzzles, fitness tasks, but above all the commitment of the leaders, who passionately try to pass on their knowledge using modern technologies, are met with great interest from picnic participants from Zakopane to Mrozy…
Interesting observations have been made by the teams from the three universities during brief exchanges with the participants of the tasks and competitions organized at the LUC stands. Participants shared what was new to them, what they learned, what they liked.
We are pleased with the inquisitiveness in the questions asked by both adults and very young participants; we are satisfied with the joy of successfully completing the competition and the genuine pride in winning the LUC Master medal, which they then proudly display, attracting the attention of those around them.
The team of science animators consists of employees of the Medical University of Lublin (USK 1 General Ophthalmology Clinic, Department of Paediatrics and Paediatric Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences), the Lublin University of Technology and the University of Life Sciences in Lublin.
They will complete their summer travels around Poland on 30 August in Grudziądz.
Prof. Zarzycka (UMLub team) recalls her observations from the trips:
“At the first Picnic in Zakopane, my attention was drawn to the behaviour of a man in his early twenties who, after putting on the drug goggles, was extremely focused and did not treat the situation as a game. After completing the task, we had a short conversation and then I heard: Very realistic, I haven’t taken drugs for two years. In Giżycko, on 12 July, despite the drizzle, we hosted crowds, often organised groups such as the University of the Third Age, or camp or holiday camp participants. Suddenly, a few teenage boys appeared, who successfully completed the competitions and won medals. After a while, I noticed them on stage in the Lato z Radiem competitions. They had already taken part in other attractions, but they all proudly presented their LUC Champion Medals. It was an unforgettable sight.”
Anetta Mączka (UMLub team): “I was delighted to see how happily the participants took part in the activities offered by our stand. We tried to ensure that the level of difficulty of the questions and puzzles was appropriate for the age of the child. Sometimes we had the impression that the parents wanted to win more than their children! Just receiving a personalised certificate was a real honour, and every additional prize was a delight, especially when there were several options to choose from!”
